JoKi One
CARNIVAL. CRAFTING. COSTUMING.
About JoKi One
Founded by Walda George-Waithe, JoKi One is a creative brand rooted in love, legacy, and the joy of making. We were born not from a business plan, but from a shared creative moment—designing a Carnival costume so a three-year-old (our Founder's daughter) could play mas. That single act of craft became a tradition, a practice, and eventually a brand. Today, almost two decades later (with a brief pause during COVID), JoKi One continues to celebrate creativity across generations.
Our slogan says it plainly:
Carnival. Crafting. Costuming.
Carnival: The Heart of JoKi One
Children's Carnival Band
JoKi One produces a small, intentionally curated Children's Carnival band built on creativity rather than scale. Each year begins with a simple idea—often a colour—and grows into a full presentation through thoughtful design and hands-on craftsmanship. Our mas is relaxed, family-oriented, and open to all ages, creating space for genuine expression without pressure.
Designing and creating costumes is our greatest joy. The long hours of production fade away the moment a presentation crosses the stage—especially when we see children wearing designs brought to life by hand and imagination.
ExoMas Band
Expansion is always possible, and in 2024 JoKi One took the opportunity to produce the costumes for ExoMas Band - Republic Bank Exodus Steel Orchestra's Monday and Tuesday Mas Presentation and since 2025 has partnered with East Yard Enterprises to expand the Steelband's mas offering, winning several accolades thus far.
Easter: Honouring the Art of Craft
JoKi One is also the host of an annual Easter Bonnet Parade, now in its 9th edition. This initiative was created to celebrate the exceptional level of craftsmanship found in Trinidad and Tobago, particularly in bonnet-making. As long-time bonnet creators ourselves, we understand the skill, patience, and creativity involved.
The parade exists as a platform—one that honours makers, showcases artistry, and keeps traditional and contemporary craft visible and valued.
JoKi One Studio: Our Creative Hub
At the centre of everything we do is JoKi Oner Studio, located at 27 Prince Street, Arima. The studio serves as our official mas camp, creative workspace, and retail hub. It also houses and features the work of partner artisans, offering a shared space where handcrafted items, design, and creativity meet the public.
JoKi Oner Studio reflects our belief in collaboration, community, and supporting local makers.
Beyond Events: Craft as Practice
JoKi One actively engages in crafting from multiple standpoints, including:
-
Design and concept development
-
Costume creation and custom crafting
-
Supply of crafting materials
-
Creative support for makers, families, and community initiatives
-
Retail opportunities for partner artisans
Whether through Carnival, Easter traditions, studio-based work, or everyday making, JoKi One is committed to thoughtful design, skilled hands, and creative continuity.
JoKi One is not just about spectacle. It is about making with intention—and carrying creativity forward.
